Summer Capsule Wardrobe

Last month when I shared my Spring Capsule Wardrobe, I mentioned that 5 of the items would transition into my Summer Capsule. The ease of transitioning pieces from season to season is one of the perks of keeping a capsule wardrobe; when you buy items that are versatile and great quality, you can wear them repeatedly throughout different seasons and for years to come.

In this post, I’m going to share the 5 summer season pieces that will pair with the 5 items transitioning from my spring capsule to round out my capsule wardrobe for Summer 2021. One thing I want to highlight – as a reminder when I do my seasonal capsule wardrobes – is that these 10 items will not be the entirety of my wardrobe for the summer season. Rather, these 10 items will make up the the foundation for any Summer Capsule Wardrobe, and will pair well with other summer pieces to create endless styling combinations.

I also want to note that I have taken Remake Our World’s #NoNewClothes pledge, and have pledged not to buy any new clothes from June 1st to September 1st of 2021. Though I was originally expecting to add new items into my capsule wardrobe for the Summer season (there are existing items in my wardrobe I was hoping to replace, and also gaps that I was hoping to fill), I have kiboshed my shopping plans in favour of supporting the #NoNewClothes pledge. In reality, I really do not need any new clothes – I have more than enough items in my closet to dress me through Summer 2021.

The 5 items from my Spring Capsule that will be transitioning into my Summer Capsule are:

  1. Basic White Tee
  2. Light Denim Jeans
  3. Long Neutral Slip Dress
  4. Light Coloured Handbag
  5. Hat

To read the details of the above pieces and why they make great capsule basics, please read my Spring Capsule Wardrobe post.

Though the above pieces are great transitional items that can be worn in both Spring and Summer months, additional pieces are needed to round out the core of my Summer Capsule in order to withstand the summer heat. The following 5 items will be wearable on the hottest of days.

6. Basic White Tank

The basic white tank will serve as your summer version of the basic white tee for those super hot days. You can layer this piece under short-sleeved button-ups, or wear it on it’s own with shorts, skirts, or lightweight pants.

7. Camisole

The camisole (in either a neutral or a neutral print) will serve as your dressier hot weather top. Camisole’s are great as they can be dressed up or down, and can even transition into your workwear wardrobe when paired with a blazer or jacket.

8. Denim Shorts

There is no denying this absolute classic summer wardrobe staple. Denim shorts – in blue, black or white – can be worn with literally anything and everything. Every tee, tank, camisole, button-up and bathing suit will look perfectly styled with a pair of denim shorts.

9. Short Slip Dress

Though a long slip dress is elegant for a summer night out, a shorter slip dress will be a great summer daytime staple. Just like its longer counterpart, this piece can be dressed up or down depending on the shoes and accessories you pair it with.

10. Casual Sandals

A good pair of neutral, casual flat sandals will carry you through the summer season. Choose a pair in a lighter neutral colour, as it will go with everything. I find it sometimes difficult to pair black sandals in summer, as they sometimes feel too dark and heavy. My personal favourites are Birkenstocks, but I know they’re not for everyone!!

Hope you found this post helpful if you’re currently planning your own Summer Capsule Wardrobe. We’re less than a week away from the first day of Summer!
